Organic mulch provides many benefits to trees. Mulch slowly breaks down releasing nutrients into the soil, holds moisture, helps protect roots form extreme temperatures, reduces competition, feeds the soil food web, creates a barrier for mowers and trimmers, and more!

Trees Love Mulch!

Yes, trees love mulch and we recommend mulching your trees. If your tree needs mulch, give us a call. We are happy to install and maintain a mulch ring for your tree.

Mulch depth

Roots love mulch but tree trunks do NOT. No Mulch volcanos! We lay a layer of mulch 1-3" deep around the circumference of the tree, leaving the trunk exposed. Covering your trunk with mulch can lead to rot!

Weed Fabric and Rocks

We recommend organic mulch with or without natural barriers. Rocks can over heat and burn roots in the hot summer sun, and weed fabric sheds water and reduces airflow. Rocks don't break down to provide nutrition either. Organic mulch is best!

Roots need to breathe!

Yes, roots need air! This is one reason we don't recommend plastic barriers around trees. Landscape fabric is better than solid plastic, but it't not as good as plain ole mulch!
